Simple Minds

Post by ShadowRunner »

Now people in the UK and the States, know Simple Minds as that band which banged out awful rock anthems, trying to sound like U2 and Big Country, but about 20 years ago, someone played me some Simple Minds, before they were famous.

Simple Minds were living in Germany and gigging and recording there, the sounds they made there were awesome, nothing like the Simple Minds we know, it was synthpop, electronic music, but very good stuff. Also it was way way ahead of it's time.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I guess those Simple Minds tracks are all rock-pop, their early stuff was different. It's the same for all bands. I like the first two Stones albums, first two Roxy Music albums, first two Japan albums, first two U2 albums, first two Peter Gabriel Albums. And then out of those albums I probably only like two tracks per album.

Alot of bands seem to go limp after two albums.
U2 are the winners in the three horse race of Simple Minds, Big Country and U2. I bet you guys never heard of Big Country either. Dont worry you havent missed anything.

Well next week shall I rattle on about Marillion, Robert Fripp, Hawkwind, Van der Graff Generator or Bauhaus, Southern Death Cult and why ScrittiPoliti and Howard Jones are cool?

I want to convert these tracks to UMX for DX, I'll be finding the links...

Voodoo Ray - A Guy Called Gerald
Dedicated - Global Communication (the track with bells)
Apollo - Brian Eno - Any track first side
Fluffy White Clouds - The Orb
