Odds are some of them will at least try it. Although in my personal opinion the problem more has to do with the community than anything else. No matter how fun a game may be nobody's going to want to play with a bunch of assholes. I'd say the best you can hope for is keeping the game alive until DX3 and then transplanting the community over to its MP.

You're right, we've just got a proof...

I just thought of some new things based on my past experiences with the game. I think the thing that kept me in the game when I first started was I was able to get in a clan early on, [Mav], with an experienced leader, Storm. With the exception of Storm all the other members were noobs and yet from [Mav] and later [Shen] we produced some very skilled players who were very devoted to the game. This got me thinking that there's not really any clans like this that cater to new players. Instead all the clans are trying to get players that have already established themselves, and yet there's really no point in this practice since clan wars are so few and far between.

What this game needs is to show new players that they are welcome by having clans that will accept them and take the time to train them. This not only shows them that new players are seen as an important part of the community, but will also make them feel like they are a part of the community faster than if they were left to their own devices. On top of this they will be able to make some in game friends easier, which will give them a reason to stick around. So, I think with some decent word of mouth advertising to bring new players in combined with this to help convince them to stay, we might be able to breathe some new life into the game. All that's needed are some older players, preferably with some leadership experience, to take some time out of killing the same people they've been fighting for the past year and instead help train newer players and start a clan that caters to them.

HK often has a recruitment program where we scout for flexible looking underskilled players and take them in under an apprenticeship to learn more from us. So as to sculpt them into talented players. I myself am a product of an apprenticeship program in this game.

Well ive been working on a slimline that: combines the demo with the MP patch. (as both are freely avalable). but this one should come with:

1.community maps
2.Extra MSs already in ini: (the ones there are: fragaholic.com, gamespy.com, dxjm.co.cc, zeroserver.co.cc)

uplink and the menuscreen part. (being combined) Ive talked about this with a few people, but the mapping part isnt ready. almost all texture files are with the demo (apart from: G_Station, CorTexWater. not much music is there either. but all sounds U files etc are.

The SDK can also be there (as its avalable free).

The ini will have comments explaining what to do etc.

when our ADSL gets back up ill explain more. (just moved house so on 56k xD).

Ill be working on the slimline while we are without net so ill keep you all updated after its back up. (should be 4 - 5 days).
Alot more will be done.
Like my MP keypad already included in the EditPackages line etc.
So it will be in the editor like all default classes when the editors loaded.
(i wont use other peoples mods without permission).
It would need advertisement but that comes later.
Ill post more soon.

Sounds very good, I wonder how big it is (megabytes) :)

Just over 100 atm.

But it compresses down in half when zipped.

(unreal packages compress well.).

Ill do 2 versons of the DXMP_NYC_Tavern map.

one thats compatable with that. (The music issue)
(ive been working on tavern while away from ADSL).

It is basiclly NYC_Bar with improved spawns etc.

(NYC_Bar was easy to spawncamp). ill release tavern when im back on ADSL.

It will have maps for all gametypes :) (RPG, 0AUGS, ATDM, BTDM etc).

Ill remove the conversation packages as they arnt needed in MP (they are part of the first 2 levels of the SP that are included).

Nepthys is preinstalled too.

Ill keep you all updated (whenever i can get on this 56k (well says connected at 115 and seems faster)

EDIT:

MTL is also preinstalled :)

Do you have plans on how to make it popular?

But it compresses down in half when zipped.
check out UHARC if you are looking for extreme compression

it's command-line tho, but you can add a shitload of maps/textures/music/mods and still keep it at very low size

Yeah i may check outUHARC. Unreal packages compress well with standard ZIP so that will be alot better. But if its command line.. hmm ill look into that when done.

and to make it popular, it would need to be posted on gaming forums etc. if its legal i dont see a problem in doing that.

But if i could id make it easier to switch teams etc.

(the readme will have everyhting in detail).

~[E]~ has had trainees in the past, and atm we still accept them (3 is the max.)

.ZIP compression sucks. Use .RAR or .7Z instead.

I know that DXA took a few new players into the clan too.
I'm glad to see, that they got more fun etc if they are in a clan.

Some new players I meet I offer to train them and basically to teach them how to play DXMP.

I have to say I was thinking about making a DXMP-Version too. Reason for this idea was the following : I've downloaded the DXMP from RTK and noticed it hasen't a propper installer. But the DXMP-Version posted before got it and so I dropped that idea.
Anyway ... it sounds good, what you are about to make, HDD21.
Keep on going like that and I'll say : Glaf that you stayed in DXMP ;)
