I see possible explanations.
1. The riot on their forums made them sit up and think about giving players options to turn off a few things.
2. They made a fairly violent shooter and the recent influx of DX1 fans made them realize it needs changes to be truly DX.
3. Adding DLC and Multiplayer or some major additions to the game.
4. Further polish.
5. They have been playing too much Deus Ex.
