Shadow, I understand your concers about Altfire maps. I don't want only "fight" maps on Altfire, as you know (or no) I dislike maps like Pool or MiniDust, but I don't like maps, where you have to searching an enemy for long time. Perfect map is not too small, but not too big. When I wrote "Altfire needs maps like Scoutknives" I meant this map works well, when there are playing 2-5 players. Altfire needs maps, which works well with small number of players, because everyone knows what is situation in DXMP currently. So, I don't want copies of Scouts.
How to make a good Altfire for 2-4 players? I think it's easy or at least easier than many people think.
For example eXile is very good map for 2-4 players and perfect for Altfire. Same with DXMP_ReturnToLandernauBETA, DXMP_Altfire_Prodigy, DXMP_S9 and DXMP_MCI(v0-95). These maps are very diffrent than Scouts, but are good for small number of players also.
When a map is too big and when is fine? For example what is diffrence between DXMP_Condemned and DXMP_EnemyAtTheGates? EnemyAtTheGates is open map, even buildings are open. It's big map, but open and it makes nice distance fights. Condemned has extensive underground and many rooms in buildings. So, often you can't find your enemy and you have to looking for him for long time. It's good example, because both maps have similar size, but only EnemyAtTheGates is good for 2-4 players.
So, what maps can "give" Altfire mapping challenge? It depends on imagination of mappers. I believe it can be really nice maps adjusted for small number of players. I know mappers as Chees and Kalman know how to make excellent map. ^^ Even if it will map similar to Scouts, but better and made by beginner mapper? Better map with Scouts gameplay sounds good, so why not?
I myself have few ideas for Altfire map and these ideas aren't "Altfire version of Iceworld".

About maps for augs. I understand how to play atdm/btdm, but I have very small practice in augs. When I sometimes play augs, I get bad scores usually. It's only for fun. Do you think I can make good augged map? :ney:
My friend BBPL has made map for some tournament, which was designed for Altfire and augged gameplay and this map was really good for both gameplays (at least BTMD in case augs). I can try it also, but I can't promise it will good map for augs.

The previous map challenge wasn't named "0-aug map challenge" was it? We can host Map Challenge 2 in which mappers decide what gametype they want to go with their maps, 0-aug, augs, altfire, even RPG?

EDIT: on a second thought, it would be pretty hard to judge >_> BUT STILL

I think it's the best choice. Every mapper make what only he wants. Judges will be chosen from mappers who don't want join into challenge or don't have time for mapping. This time Shadowrunner and Face can join into challenge, if they want. :)

I am thinking on new map. I will be making it even without challenge, but in challenge is more fun. :) 2-3 months mapping challenge since 1st September sounds great! ^^

Oversized map challenge( not file size )!
Like some urban terror and unreal tournament maps, players are like mouses, and the map is huge like phück.

I like that but, 3 quality ones on the go already, plus also you're going to need a server for each RPG, still it's do-able.

I think it's important the next mapping challenge is different from the last one.

1. Free reign technically, sizewise, small or big, up to the mapper. no MB limit.

2. Give everyone the same theme, so it is easier to judge, no shitstorms. i.e. "Disney" or "Sci Fi" or "MJ12 Base" etc...

A map alone is an effort Psycho let alone an RPG map/mod's plus Undead revolution RPG is in the process of being made by Cozmo, Myself and Atery. A normal mapping challenge again would be a nice idea yet different rules like Shadow stated. Even so I couldn't enter this challenge myself due to other projects and maps I'd gladly help judge the contest :-D

Majster, sorry, somehow I didn't see your post before.

I completely understand your point about underground tunnels, Storage Yard[FGS] is like that.

Condemned and Titanium were Icho's suggestions. I think Condemned works better than Titanium. I personally think it is a good idea if maps have some inconsequential area where people can hide, the problem is the availability of grenades near spawnrooms, so getting outside is dangerous. The problem is usually the noobs, not the map.

I think there should be some maps on the list, like Stargate maps or Mantra's last map, or other "showcase" type of maps like Proteus, which beginners can see that you can fiddle with SP maps or create your own if you want. If you go down the route of every map being a TDM map on that server, problems will be greater. More like after 5 minutes, players should be able to initiate a mapvote/change etc.

If every other server is going to host smuggler or similar, then Altfire should seize that opportunity to be the most creative, have coded maps, have maps like Mantra's, or maps like SP, e.g. SG where beginners can do amazing things...

I get your point totally, but I don't agree it should really be a guideline for hosting, well... by itself at least...

I know that, I was just hoping that if there was a challenge, it would give the ones in the process of making one a incentive to hurry up :-D

ye. I'm doing a map already, although i didn't have this challenge in mind when i started it.

it's going to be tiny, slighlty bigger than iceworld with 3 levels. above ground, underground and underwater. Low tec and pistols only. Maybe a rifle locked in a cabinet on the top floor. :-D

Nice idea. Only rifles are used by players in 0 augs, it will be a nice change playing without these weapons. I like maps like Sniper Box or Ruins Pistol. :D

NOCHANC's SniperBox is epic.
The great and noble quest to reach the teleporters at either end of the map whilst your deathly foes follow your head in their sights.

Another idea for a challenge. Maps like Scoutz etc... one wep only per map. That can of course be a sniper, or a prod. Maybe allow one ballistic wep and unlimited melee weps. Good idea maj. And Psycho, I agree time is a factor.
