That's why for this mod, the textures would be included in the installer, so no downloader....
besides, DX Textures on a UT map is just not right

I suppose it's so the joining player doesn't have to sit there and let the server send the packages at a slug's pace, he can download it externally from DX and thus avoid downloading the required packages from the server... ?

This is how it works, lets say that you download this mod from the internet, and the installer that comes with it installs the UT Textures in a folder in the deus ex directory.... therefore, in the server, you will not have to wait for ever to download the textures.
Get it now?

I find myself agreeing, it's hard enough to get people to connect to a MP server, so any kind of download, registering etc, cuts out players maaaybe. Facetown will be register-only so it will be interesting to see how it works.
A serious attempt at grabbing UT players would require that players can just connect and textures are drawn from default packages mainly. It would defeat the object perhaps. You can see that people are quite happy to download huge files from Hengsha server, if the mod is worth a look. Also when I fiddle with UT assets, I find that plenty of the textures aren't workable in SDK without the right packages either. You're on the right course but it needs to be easy as 1 2 3.

And lets not forget the fact UT has certain coding aspects that DX doenst.
But i still keep my suggestion mostly on the siege mod side because its played by alot of players(servers have max players almost all the time) and it even has tournaments( unfortunatly i forgot the link to the site that hosts them but i do know who made the mod). And on a coding part, the coding it self looks really interresting.

Ok, Let me NOTE here...
I am ONLY porting the maps from UT.... No coding, weapons, actors, characters... nothing more than just Maps...
The only thing being used is textures.

Ground speed would have to be higher and less gravity too, it HAS to be fast paced.

Wtf, lot of the ideas you've sometimes suggested for 0a I have problems with, but this post is like a print out of my thoughts some weeks ago. Exactly what I was rolling around in my head, too, both what regards LAMs and GAS smoke! As long-time 0a player I endorse this idea 100%.
Crucial for Basic 0a but balanced in ATDM. BTDM is easy-mode anyway.

Yea, the Unreal maps were designed to be played with a larger player model that moves faster. This is a reason as to why Spirit seems so large for most players - it was never made with the Deus Ex style in mind.
Editing groundspeed from the map side is something I'm unsure about, but ZoneInfo allows for local gravity changes.

Yeah I made a similar error to CS-Office so I had to redo it 20% smaller.
