I just got the stardard windows desktop of the green hill and the sky (blue incidentally), I used to change it daily with pictures of my favourite cars but I haven't bothered in years, it's the teletubby-esque background for me.

Best background ever. You can notice that I've got old '98 style - that's done on purpose, I've got around 40% faster login->ready to work time.

really helps if you're not a Vista user or if you don't care about looks. if you're looking for a sweet, nice looking system, get KDE4 or a Leopard.

switching to Win7 soon, already got the beta on second PC, works like a breeze on 512 MB RAM. Check it out, at least on VMWare, worth the download.

I might actually try that configuration Kuchcik, if it is faster like you say then it'll be worth it.

There's a slimline XP you can get from torrent sites that is suppsed to speed up your PC, I'm not sure what programs it disposes, I may look into that.

from what I read about windows vista and the new windows 7 coming out is that vista focused on security more than anything because several viruses freaked microsoft out so they upgraded security features instead of being compatible for certain hardware/software and other things like speed and such. so from what I understand Windows 7 is going to be what microsoft originally intended for Vista.

basically Win 7 will be Vista - scheisshaus (hopefully because if microsoft fcuks this up they will fail and I will use XP till I die...)
