wait wait wait.. FPS and reload-times? err.. so you're saying that people with more FPS reload sniper faster? I don't think so..
It's 100% true that once you reach a certain FPS your sniper reloads alot faster.

I got another idea, sniper should make you walk like a snail. Like weapons in tnag. There should be a movement penalty.
The idea of snipers running ahead of team and killing on the run, is so *******. Sniper should be vulnerable and if scoped, unable to run around. Even unscoped, should not be able to run and fire really.

I think we all the tell tale signs of FPS abuse...the biggest one is the sound. A looping 3 bullets - space - 3 bullets - space - 3 bullets
There is another cause for this and that is your CPU underclocking itself. Intels Speedstep for example. When you load a game like DX which takes no CPU power to run it can underclock itself but when the game needs a bit more power like a rifle fight it ramps up its frequency a bit. This can cause what we deem as FPS abuse. Yet its nothing to do with the clients FPS...
You can make a shortcut on your desktop and in the target box your CPUs freqency - for example mine looks like this D:\DeusEx\System\DeusEx.exe -2600
This forces the game to begin with the proper clockspeed.
Phantom however does abuse FPS. His fire rate is just super high..
Im very interested in this mod Cozmo speaks about with the ability to see peoples FPS on the scoreboard. I would love to see this in action. Kudos to whoever made that!

On the subject of making snipers less ridiculous, throw in a damage falloff at close range, too - that way we might actually see them used exclusively for long-distance takedowns

Wouldn't the fps clock mess up? As my fps can go from 12 to 40 in a second, and if other players has the same sort of trend, wouldn't it lag? Also when I first go my laptop, my fps would be like 90 outside of fights, and 30 in fights, wouldn't that massive drop lag?

That would be illogical, all guns do more damage the closer they are to the target.

If that is true, then I am wondering why was the revolver and SMG invented?
Rifles are heavy and not easy to swing quickly.
It's part of the charm of the game I guess, but rifle is a joke and should incur serious movement penalties and a damage fall-off up close makes sense, people would be jumping out of the way faster than the enemy can swing the rifle barrel.

I don't know why people are hating on the rifle, not many people use it massively effectively imo. The biggest problem is people whoring the assualt rifle it's always been this way imo, only now it's worse with people relying on CPU power to get kills. Often i can hit enemy torso with rifle and not get hit and then it's an assualt rifle battle that should see me win more often then not. However due to the enemies superior CPU I will die in most cases, i'm sometimes content with a double death often pressing k will reveal the enemies minus health status, perhaps that issue would better addressed.

I also don't feel the need for rebalancing the sniper, for this reason. If you we're to make it heavier then other weapons should be redone.
The kickback on the assault rifle and assault shotgun should be a lot more to bring it into a somewhat realistic state as should the pistol. In fact the pistol should kick not only up but also to a side slightly.
Xbox should need 2 hands to reload.
What we have to remember is JC is augmented and is stronger than a man. A heavy rifle to him is nothing.

In augs rifle seems to be well-balanced amongst the weps, but in zero augs it's just far too prevalent and also being used in melee as routine. The difference is speed, in zero augs it's just too easy to carry, aim quickly, everyone can be the team's sniper.
1. Always a flat surface, like iceworld, somewhere easy to run and fire, it's NEVER hard to snipe in DX maps.
2. Unlike CS, you have a sniper and 20 bullets available to you, before you even killed anyone.
3. You could be facing an enemy team, entirely of 10 snipers, no engineers, medics, soldiers, 10 snipers lol. This is proof.
4. Sniper can carry a bigass sniper rifle AND 2 assault weps, is this not dumb unrealistic metabollicks excrement.
5. There are absolutely no movement or aiming penalties going on at all.
6. You can scope point blank and kill someone, but unscoped at point blank, you hardly scratched them.
7. How much do you really like being shot in the back leaving your spawn, by a camper.
8. If you remove lams, turrets and anything for beginners, and 9 of the ten people have a sniper and use it well?
9. Over-used, every map almost has a sniper available from start to every player.
10. All of the above makes it somewhat unrealistic.
DXAG owned, because it was brave enough to reign in the sniper fun and incur penalties, you could have a knife, sawn-off and your augs were pretty useless. This in my opinion was the way forwards, snipers should not be able to switch to an assault wep ever, their choice of secondary weps should be at best, a pistol.
This would immediately give the range that Magus is talking about, but it goes hand in hand with fps fix/monitoring.
Rather than change the wep as Magus suggested, I'd simply make it dangerous for the sniper to get close, give him only knife and pistol. He'd have to drop his sniper to get an assault wep.
If you could prove beyond doubt that someone has very high fps, then rather ban tons of beginners, you can simply name and shame persistent abuse and ban with a clear conscience.

I most certainly agree that flat maps are 1 just totally unrealistic and the sniper does rule. I'm guilty of this also using the sniper as melee weapon...
In non augs I do agree it should be penailised perhaps even slower to pull out?

Melee sniper is cool, yes I think it would be slower to wield... but old habits die hard, getting ppl used to it.
So you'd allow snipers to carry assault weps, but make it slower to switch, well I'd be up for testing that.

There is confusion about the definition of melee.
To me, melee is brawling, i.e. DTS, crowbar, knife, baton, prod, sword, pepper spray.
Anything else is a ranged weapon. So Melee sniping to me, means sticking the rifle barrel in your ear and firing, not sometimes easy.
The true definition is melee is when two armies run towards each other and both ranks are locked in combat.
i.e. not ranged, close quarters.
