Do you think you guys would play a DXSP mod that is a half-prequel/half-same story as Deus Ex but from the eyes of Smuggler. The first part of the game would be an origin story and Smuggler developing his character as the Grey Death first starts appearing. It would have a younger Smuggler bepoping around New York, then events as large as the Nanotech program and some as personal as his relationship with Sandra Renton. I always wondered how she knew his password...
I'll play through every Smuggler sequence in the game and do all the research to make the first half as much of a prequel as possible. Smuggler has events in his life go wrong, then he sees the corruption of the government, and then falls into the world of weapons dealing and realizes the only righteous way to make a living would be to support the NSF cause.
Then after Act I, Smuggler has his first encounter with JC. Then what I will do is add whatever missions you do in DX and you will temporarily play as JC a few times where your decision as JC in the original. Just 3 side-missions like that would probably be good. Also the game would assume that the original DX basically had lots of its New York/Smuggler scenes cut out, like when editing a movie. To compensate, I will add a lot more in depth conversations, make a few new maps and expand the existing ones where Smuggler will live (like his squat underground, it will need a kitchen.)
Its just a spark of an idea that I had, so I'm not sure about actually building on it yet. But if I decide to do it I would have to go all out. Think nameless mod but with Smuggler. Intense, expansive, awesome.

Sounds like something I'd really like to play, although I hope I won't be waiting five years to play it.

And ye, that sounds like a cool mod, but also one that will require a lot of work, and as Jima already pointed out, we don't want to wait 5 years ;P

I'd start off small, perhaps separate the mod into missions, complete one mission before starting another and see how it goes, try not to take on too much at once, "don't feel overwhelmed, do one thing at a time", "I'm right on top of that Rose!" - guess the film quote for a cookie.

What chin said, plus, if you gonna pick that up release it in chapters maybe, otherwise people may loose faith. DXSP community for one will def be trying it out.

Ya I was thinking of making my multiplayer maps after the Smuggler story as well. I have awesome urban ideas as well that could be used with the smuggler storyline. I want most of my maps to be large, but not so much in the sense of width and length but in just how many more areas there are suggested in DX. Imagine the Hell's Kitchen map with most of the apartment and other building doors that were just wallpaper for looks would have an actual door leading to something. Plenty of open windows for full 3D inspired battles with lots of cover and tactics involved. And I know when to not overdo it don't worry I'm good like that.
I would just imagine maybe half as many missions as DX. I could see something like that. I also have a billion switches in my head that I want to implement to take the replayability to high amount, I want to take the decision making to the next level. For example, I want to make several missions that aren't even used in the game and is based on many possible choices, including some that alter the game completely but still flow with the DX story. It can be done. I've had all this metabolic end product brewing for almost a decade, first picking up the SDK at age 12 but never finishing a project, being far to ADD, neurotic and a female sex organ chaser, as well as falling victim to internet games and porn. But this will be fantastic.
Not five years, but I say give it three. I plan on doing college and some programming classes during that time and will practice often with modding the game. Java and C++ I I've already.
One thing that would be nice is if anyone who was bored and wanted to help with, say, art related details, such as for example skinning a character mesh of Anna Navarre Pre-augmentation. Maybe some basic reshading to make some characters look younger.
Man I already have a good script brewing too. I went back and played all the missions in which you encounter smuggler and done all the choices, and it occurs to me smuggler is pretty aged. He has seen some metabolic end product. White hair and everything. This guy has some history with the characters in the story. He strikes me as a black Batman of sorts who has retired to the equivalent of what would be a "desk job" for what he used to do. There were other black guys in the game too, and if the population had dwindled due to a "disease" that kills off the poor and minority, you know that every black guy left on earth at least had every other black guys' e-mail address. The web of story-character relationship is endless! And I want to make it happen. It will be part cinematic, part prequel, awesome DX tribute FPS RPG spin-off of one of DX's most legendary characters.
You guys just need to get over it or down with the sickness.

There is an SP level where smuggler is the protagonist, I will try to remember.
There's no harm in thinking big, if you achieve even 20% of this, it will be something I'm sure. Making an SG SP game is ridiculously huge to think about, but if I break it down level by level and work on one at a time, I'm sure I will end up with one level at least. See you in 2-3 years time.
