Only a few replies so far, from the responses so far it is clear that theories are correct and DXMP needs a bit of good PR.
These gamers love DX, but assume DXMP can't ever be like the single player. Obviously they aren't aware how much of the SP game has been brought to MP these days.
If you want to see more players come to DXMP, get on this thread and speak positively, about 50 people online at one time.
It moves me to create a site specifically for greeting DX3 players and integrating them into DXMP.
While the vast majority of DX3 players will want to play modern games, there will be a large number of people still who enjoy vintage games, or love DX enough to spend time in DXMP.

I think Counter Strike 1.6 - being the old game it is - still has hundreds (if not thousands) of fans playing the game while there have been a bunch of new CS games released with the same concept after it was released.
If we had the support of Eidos to bring some light on DXMP, we could be just as popular.

It's coming...
It's very clear from that thread that 99% of DX fans have no idea how the community have improved DXMP or introduced elements of single player to servers. I'm not interested in that 99%, I'm interested in the 1% who have an open mind. That would equate to several hundreds or thousands of people. With a "sales conversion" rate of say even 3%, that instantly adds a zero to the number of players, and that is worst case scenario. All we need is confidence, excitement, patience.

The prospect of even that worst case scenario is very exciting. I hope you are right.

There is something that can not be argued with, it is called the LAW of AVERAGES.
If I throw a basketball into the hoop once, it's going to miss probably. If I throw the ball 1000 times, how many times will it go through the loop? The law of averages has never ever failed in anything. It's a universal law applied to success in any selling.
DX2 brought hundreds of players and that game sucked. DX3 is a better game. But it wont bring more, because DXMP is older, I guess roughly the same amount of people will try, people who like good games will not stay long, but dx fans, real fans, will love it.
