RANT: Altfire

On my altfire server coming soon, there will be no:

1. Shotgun - Yes I will remove it. Atlfire 2010 is 0-aug maps and AutoShotgunsecondary fire lagging me so much that I cant even pull a wep, fire back, all I can do is watch the noob lag me to death. Besides it is a 20th century wep not a sci fi wep. BANNED!
2. 0-aug maps - Yes I will remove Abandoned and Pacman and allow players room to fight with these big boy weps.

A lot of the high-scoring players on altfire seem content to vote abandoned and lag-gun, i mean shotgun people. This is not altfire at all, I will create a server where this can't be possible.

As a vet, I take pride in using my shock rifle however close the enemy, even point blank I will still try to shock rather than switch to noobrifle or laggun. It's almost pointless these days, because the micro-maps like Abandoned and Pacman dominate Wunderland (both were temporary maptests).

If the maps were larger, and there was room to throw lams and use shotty, then fair enough, but if FGS wont fix the server after 2 years, we might as well leave and make an altfire server where there is some point to having a shock rifle.

The alternative is vote scoutz, a harsh alternative, only one wep on the whole map.

Well.. let's see how your server gets successful. I, on the other hand, have no problem with any maps. People wish to play small maps with high powered weapons.

But I do have problems with Abandoned.. it's music, and it looks way boring to me. :oops:

EDIT: And there's no such problem in ScoutzKnifez, I see no need of adding another weapon. People know it only has ONE weapon, and vote it knowing it, no?

And the general unability of your past servers to store a legend of log files, Rollo.. :?

Nobs, I am not complaining at you, we are lucky to have your interest in DX and membership in FGS, laughing more at ourselves at the slowness of a large clan...

GamingDeluxe is popular, I didn't know the logs were such an issue. I'm sure he can do something about it, if it is possible.

I think if you poll it Nobody, to fight on abandoned/twinz/pacman/morbias OR fight 8red/skyline/proteus/frequency, FGS will vote strongly for the classic wunderland medium/large maps and the SG maps. Twinz is ok, it fits the altfire theme, but abandoned and pacman are disaster. Abandoned got played 10 times, and still won mapvote, when other maps had been voted four times in a row, they still lost. Mapvote is alphabetical?

I know some FGS hate pulse. I don't hate high power. I hate shotty, firstly, it is not a sci-fi wep... andsecondly, it laaaaaaaags me, game becomes unplayable, my wep dont fire if enemy shooting me with shotty, that's how much they lag me. I know some FGS like shotty too but new players think it is a cheat, same as wallshooting with gravity rifle. Ask Icho, but isnt the theme of wunderland cyberpunk and sci fi maps like Vortex and Proteus. What does shotty have to do with this? Many beginner or new player think that people are cheating with shotty. Same with wallshooting, we ban it. So why not ban lag-gun too?

And since when did FGS only have one wunderland altfire server? If there is only going to be ONE altfire server then every mapper in FGS will need ftp to that server. We never had ONE altfire server before, there were two servers. Wunderland 1 and Wunderland 2. That was my intention, to run a second Wunderland server, different maplist, different weps (like no shotty at least), maybe tac even. Maybe 2 or 4 augs, maybe remove speed aug, like the old Wunderland 1 server. The currrent server you are hosting is more like the Wunderland 2 server, which was our maptest server.

I think altfire server at the moment is just a noobfest, very few people using shock rifle, a lot of lams in spawnrooms, the winners usually have won with lams and shotty on a tiny map... it is soo boring.
You can't really have small maps in altfire, you can throw lams from one spwn into another.
If you are convinced, then carry on with tiny maps and high-powered weps but let others create a maptest server and something more like the 2005 server where we can enjoy a fight also please.

FGS members aren't that much as compared to non-FGS members. Besides, for example me. I like to play pacman (BUT NOT ABANDONED, IT'S FREAKIN UGLY MUSIC MAKES ME SICK) or small maps. How many do you see playing anyway? 3? 4 would be maximum I could think.. but yeah, not many are currently playing.

I have no idea of the history, but I remember when I used to play, one was SG and the other ALTFIRE. And that was pretty much it.

TBH all it needs is a ZOMG DJ (C) AWESOME RPG SERVER

My comment to your prior servers was not meant to be an insult.. more like a note about what could be made better this time.

Also, you are right.. there existed more than one Wunderland server back then, I do remember that.
However, I was not referring to wunderland but to multiple altfire servers and from what I remember there was just one of the Wunderland servers altfire.

So.. if you decide to host the altfire server, then it's better not to host another altfire server.. thus Hawk needs to close his one then.

Nah, I dont want to stop noobs having fun, cos they seem to be the only ones having fun most of the time :)

I was thinking before it should be tactical with low grav and a lot of SG maps, but some good ones too like Cybris, whatever chinny and Krisz have, some augs CTDM similar to SG servers.
The issue with augs and low grav is speed aug. The SG maps are large, but with speed aug available, the person speed augs into the air to escape a killing and its a lot of hard work and ammo refill to kill someone sometimes.

If we are only going to have one altfire server, I would either remove lams and shotty asap, or remove some maps.
To be honest I think 2 altfire servers would be good, 1 for fighting/smaller maps and 2 for maptesting, larger city maps, sci fi stuff SG maps, cybris, chill maps etc, maybe put some augs on that too, but not speed aug.

To be honest you dont want me running Altfire server, I would be like NC, remove shotty yesterday and remove tiny maps. Abandoned and Pacman arent FGS maps, but Twinz and Amtrack and the SG maps are...

Is it possible to have map cycles, and ones that are based on the amount of players are currently on the server, you could have two map cycles, small (0-6 players) with Abandoned, Sector 32, Pacman etc, and large (7-12 players) with big maps.

I don't know it's a very tricky subject and hard to find a solution, we all like different things it's pleasing the majority we have to think of. Oh and TitanShipb0 should've been taken off years ago!!

Ok then Pacman stays. In general I think everyone should give a new map a fair chance, that's all I want to say.

And Nobody, yes it would be a success, I have run many successful servers for FGS and the community before, including Platoon and Factory... so I dont see why my next server wont be a success at all :)

I've stopped using the shotgun now because I experience the same thongs as Shodowrunner, I now use the Blade thingy, which I used to use frequently many moons ago.

It's funny since I posted this shotgun lagbuggers have stopped. I feel bad now. I am NC oh no...tbh its good training, I have to kill first shot and waste 0 time aiming.
I am highly suspect of one guy using vac rifle, was using MJ12 tag

Blade is so tough if you dont quite make it and then they retreat and open up with assault, getting that second swipe is tough.

If I am to continue crusading for more humane killing of me... well the thing I notice since I was away, how spwnkilling with lam has become even more popular, especially spwndoor lamming these days.

Personally cabinet lam is ok? lam shouldnt be there in a spwnroom anyway really...

I personally don't mind 'SG tele-lams'

They're trying to enter and we're preventing that. Same goes for camping, I wouldn't mind if I or someone else camps at tele when I enter. It's gud. you always have F7 to jump off and run :$

I disagree with you totally in the case of Area51_V3_152, but any other map, ok...
But then new players often never know about the elevator or vents.
So generally ok, maybe allow it, but don't encourage it. Frown upon it, verbally abuse the noob with a word like "noooooob"?
