Poll: Skyline

Jared Locke made this map in 2001, it is one of the few "professional" dxmp maps ever built. Built for large numbers of players there are four towers that connect to each other. The gameplay, unless you jump off a tower to a certain death (even in altfire), is based around the tops of the towers. It takes around 45 minutes to visit every location, room and vent in the map already, although gameplay is usually focused around key areas. With projects like Skyline, Carone, BigFlyingParty and Orbital there is a tradition of very tall or deep structures in Deus Ex, ever since JC took a left turn into the bunker at Area 51, a tradition which seems to have been carried out in Deus Ex: Human Revolution with the transhumanist storyline and Icarus Landing System.

I am unsure how to convert this to a DXSG map, being the reason for the poll. After a kind tip-off I was able to communicate with Jared Locke who gave permission for the map to be converted to an SG map.

So to add much more to the map would be making a huge map. I am not going to remove any of his original map either.
So do I convert one of his towers into a secret base, keeping the map originally the same, no gameplay at ground level, or make a new one with a base at ground level or somewhere else...
Or to hell with it and add buildings at street level, open up the lobbies of the towers and make an MJ12 base halfway up one of the towers. A bar halfway up another tower etc, a city down at street level also...

Haha, funny poll.

..except the RPG one. I'm way serious about making one and I don't think that 'editing' a map would work out. Also, you don't need to work on the RPG map.

I HAS OTHER PLANZ

Skyline is a fun map, here's what I'd do to it:

Enlarge the space around the main area so you can add a Spaceship (!) floating above the towers which could be used as a secret base. (this has been my plan for a long, I just never have the time to do it myself)
This might result in sacrificing the skybox but it would look awesome to have a ufo floating above the city like the one we could see in District 9. 8-)

I don't recommend using ground level, the map is big enough already. Players won't find eachother.

I voted third option btw.

Also, the spaceship floating above the city doesn't actually have to be the base, just make it look like it is. This way you might save the skybox (provided there is actually one, I never saw the map in UEd)

I vote for god mode and adding credits and a shop which only admins can go in.

metabolic end product, they really called the jumper gateship
anyway, I vote for an underground base or a space metabolic end product somewhere on the map.

What I would do is have the secret base be spread across all four towers with interconnecting walkways across the gaps...

I'm sold on Magus and Krisz's ideas... could be a lot of falling to your death in trying to reach the UFO and it makes sense to use existing bases...

thanks, was really useful.

Originally I had something like that for the latest version of DXSG_A51 but I'd have had to modify too many things to make it look cool.

Use ring transporters for the UFO, the floating aircraft above the main area can be just an illusion. No need for direct route between the two locations.

About A51, it doesnt seem as popular as CMD with the newer players, mainly due to having only one vent, hence my altfire/version 4 (which must be renamed!) and thedayafter map having 2 ring rooms besides a lot of vents like CMD , so I would hope your version 4 is going to address that. CMD works well because the huge vents prevent enemy camping the rings or one particular vent.

That is my worry about having a fake spaceship, if there is no direct route between the two it will be a goldmine for ring-geppers.
The first thing that comes into my head is a helicopter or smaller spaceship taking players up to the UFO instead of the vents. Or a drop from on a plane onto the UFO, and breaking and entering into the UFO etc... maybe one of those beams that suck people up into the spaceship...

you're right, a direct route is useful but the original map will need to suffer a major modification which you might not even want  or perhaps you do?
