DXMP_GasStation

Hi there.

I made a map for zombie co-op, with some help from Defy.
Definitely not good for 0aug or any other gametype , but with some little modifications it'll fit for classic/0aug too.

I would like to know what you think about it.
i know that the brushwork is misaligned, and the whole map is a bit crappy, but for gods sake im not that pro:D

yeah, already seen that checklist, maybe tomorrow/later today ill add another part to the map, on the end of the two blocked roads, and make a new building on that side as spawn+edit the gas station so it'll fit as a spawn too, maybe this way itll be good for classic dx/maybe altfire

since you made the edges of the map into the fake backdrop setting for skybox - you can see thru it and into that bit of road, not sure how you could solve this cause i've not made an outdoors map yet (currently making one). Outside places are really difficult to imitate in UED.

massive crash here one time by those gravestones, and FPS drops, not sure why : :?

that gas cylinder seems oddly stretched vertically, try re-sizing it manually, then intersect it and make a new copy from that.

inside here the floor should be different from the grass outside, and make that halogen lamp in there dead, it's lying on the floor so i assume it's mean to appear broken.

i like the curved stream thingy, cool dark area by the bench.

add some walls and small buildings out in the open, grab weapon racks from default DXMP maps so u can do a 0-aug version!

I noticed you intersected the whole of the gas station, this is not a good idea (for example - when I do a shift + B to select all surfaces of a brush I actually selected 1320 surfaces!). Also I crashed when I was ghosting around in the map, no doubt because of the massive intersection of the gas station.

The best way to copy stuff from Single player maps is to create a large red brush that totally surrounds the height, width and depth of the brushes you wish to copy then hit this button Image, this will highlight everything within your red brush, now simply click on edit (at the top) and click on copy. On an opened second SDK (you should load all textures first) click on edit and then paste.

I noticed the doorways were too narrow, you should make doors that are 64 or 80 units wide. The vents in the gas station can be converted for multiplayer use by making them 64 x 64 units (or 80 x 80 so two people can pass eachother. thanks to shadowrunner for that tip! ;-)

The telephone poles were really cool (reminds me of the ones in Turnpike!) and the car sitting on the bricks was another nice touch. In terms of a playable map - I think the map will need some more buildings for spawnpoints. I'm not a massive fan of using single player brushes as I find them to be buggy as most often they do not respect the powers of 2.

Looking closely at your map it seems the gas station has had it's scale altered, I notice it's very squashed!

@Chinny :yes i noticed that its up-scaled, the doorways were nice by default but (idk whyO_O) it got stretched so it messed the whole station up
i'll go re-make the gas station but now i wont intersect the whole station into one brush, ill separate it into smaller parts(somehow :-D )
and ill make the vents usable then , thx for feedback
for the telephone lines: they are meant to be powerlines (harhar :-D ) i got them from Defy, the pumphouse(that little shed with the 2 generators that work as pumps on the little river) is from Defy too, and the roadblock too.

@anax :thx for the feedback, yeah me ,cat , deathdragon, and lots of other ppl crashed at the road-crossing's upper left corner , idk why, this kind of crash happened at funline_bigflying_christmas map too a lot for me,not sure why but it happens lots of times, i get a black screen and if i wont force-stop dx immediately memory+cpu usage fills up like a sad mans bottle with beer in a pub and pc goes not responding, ill try to fix this somehow, i think its because the gravestones are semisolids, and maybe one of my subtracts hit em what caused an sneaky little evil bsphole

and Anax ,I made the crater with a brushbuilder:D i use dx editing pack, and that came with lots of cool brushbuilders
this one's named unrealex tunnel, you can set RandYExtra and RandXExtra on it, 32 - 32 by default , i tried with 40-40 and somewhat larger height, yeh, the half map turned into a bsp hole by subtracting it :Pppppp

Some doors not enough wide (those at the playerstart), 128x64x8 is a proper door
It reminds me of Left 4 Dead.
Just place some buildings near the road, so the edge of the map won't be so ugly
