Mod Idea (I need opinions)

OK, so I thought about somethin... And this is what it is..
When people install mods for deus ex, usually there is a new folder made in their directory, (<mod name>\system\*.u)
And in their INI, It shows where the game should get its files from, like this:
Paths=..\System\*.u
Paths=..\Maps\*.dx
Paths=..\Textures\*.utx
Paths=..\Sounds\*.uax
Paths=..\Music\*.umx
I was Importing maps from UT99 (WITH COMPLETE ORIGINAL TEXTURES, ETC)
and thought that I would want to host the maps... the problem WAS , that people would have to download
ALL of the textures and it would take for ever to do so....
Soo... If I wanted to avoid this, I would make an installer, that unpacks all the needed textures,
sounds, etc. needed to access this map, and put it in a folder inside the DX directory. and I would
also include a little program that "activates" the mod to where you can start deus ex, and go to a
server that is combatable with the mod. If you want to goto normal servers, you'd click on the program
again to "deactivate" it.
What the program that would activate it would do, is it would replace the INI file with a different one that tells
the game to read the textures from the mod's folder.
deactivate it, it would replace it again with the original one..
Do you understand what I am trying out here?
If so, is it a good idea?

Not quite sure I understood.
I know several people are tinkering with the idea of hosting UT related stuff to entice UT players.
Theoretically in marketing terms, it stands to fail because it's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.
DX is an RPG, UT isn't. UT refresh rates are different, so automatically DX is inferior even there. DX is not a shooter per se.
Currently there are two sorts of DX. The one which is becoming more and more like UT, just killing in arena maps. Then there is the one which is more like single player and more like Deus Ex, use your brain, use non lethal, etc etc.
I would consider producing UT in DX as an RPG, attempting to make a fight mod, is going to be really hard to bring something worth playing as much as UT, especially if it's on UT maps, not bringing actually anything of DX.

Well its possible to make a RPG mod out of UT. We have a coop mod for it. To be honest, merging UT with DX is a great idea and it might rise up the communities of these 2 games( since ut has a larger community then dx).
The idea reminded me of that mod loader of Minecraft.

Got a folder full of UT maps that I will slowly go through to make Deus Ex versions of, have recently released DXMP_Stalwart and I'm working on Peak from UT currently. Will make more of these UT maps this year if anyone's interested in using them for a DX-UT hybrid mod.

I think it's a good idea and FGS could bang this one out easily.
I think both ideas could be developed, something which is very awesome Deus Ex RPG , and something which is very UT awesome fight.

I am not wanting to make this an RPG... It is basically to get UT-like servers up and going in DX.

Well, I am not trying to get UT fans to play this.... It is for DX players, I just wanna test this and see if DXMP community likes it.
And Poor... This is isn't the same as a UT Server....

Indeed. UT servers are much better according to technical aspects.

I don't think you will, not by making a DX map that looks like a UT map. More like the other way around.
Also they are two completely different games, I haven't seen anything in UT that was remotely like DXMP_CMD.
If your mission is to fill DX with spawnkilling maps like Iceworld, that offer no gameplay other than assault weps, you've done that already with Pool, MiniDust and Snow etc. Maybe that is ok, since there are fewer players these days, but still as you can see people are regularly voting DXMP_CMD and having fun on it.
If this bring players, then ok, I will take a custard pie.

Shadow, I am not trying to make ut maps look like dx maps, there's no real conversion here. Cause the UT Maps I import to DX are the same maps seen in Ut.. same textures, etc. the only Thing I change is the weapons.
And these maps are no where near like pool or iceworld... they are a lot more bigger.

I think 0-aug could benefit from some cool grenade package which could work with old and new maps.
