Hello there

So, my problem is that i had a HDD with 2 partitions on it:
C and F
I tried to shrink 20 gigs from F to make a new partition
When the progress hit 100% it corrupted the partiition table and the pc froze
since then, i cant boot up
right now im running ubuntu from a livecd

i tried every method in CMD with a w7 recovery disk to re-create it
didnt work

Atrey told me to get TestDisk or Partition Doctor
i would but, i cant do either one because i cant install wine and Ark on a livecd to run these
i have GParted as a partition manager by default here
i can make a new partition table with that but will i lose the data that way?
Any ideas?
quick answers please

p.s.: i can still see and use all the data on the HDD in a file explorer, but gparted says that all the 500 gigs are unallocated, so everything is there, but there is no partition table

Thanks in advance [-o<

My suggestion: back up all the data you can onto pen drives, SD cards, external hard drives etc. Then wipe the disk clean and start again.
Edit: if you have a second internal hard drive, even better to use that.

We got it covered, we are recovering it.... The old classic Format and reinstall is our VERY... LAST... RESORT... lol

Did you test all the installed hardware? aka Graphics card, ram, any PCI hardware reset the motherboard batteries, check all cables and make sure it's all dust free on the fans and such?

The hardware is all OK
The prob was that the partition table got messed up because 2 partitions were overlapping
I got testdisk with sudo apt-get install testdisk after enabling universe repository

in under a night it did a deeper search where it ran throu all the cylinders
i found all the overlapping/corrupted partitions, deleted the bad ones
rebuilded MBR, BS, and the table itself

now everythings working and i got the extra partition i wanted too

And, No data loss at all!

thanks again Atrey
