Because it comments it out, so that you can still use gamespy but easily switch later.

Master Server Active ?

Hi all,
I modified the INI file, adding the lines for hosting and for the Join Game Screen, But, instead of putting the semicolon in front of "master.dxmtl.eu", I thought I would just see whether any servers are actually linked to this new master server, so I put the semicolon in front of "master0.gamespy.com". However, when I looked at the list of servers, there were not any at all, not even the 3 FGS ones. So, I hosted my server to see if I could see that in the "dxmtl.eu" master server list. However, when I went back into DX and looked at the list, there were still none there, not even mine.
The strange thing is that when I looked on the console, my server had resolved and connected to the new master server fine.
It's no big deal if it isn't working, I just felt that I had to mention this, in case it is supposed to be.
I was only testing it out, so I will go back to gamespy, but I will leave it so that it will connect to both when I host.
And I'd rather not be under a GODZ masterserver if or when the gamespy masterserver does shut down.
Patch
PS Before anyone says "have you spelt it right", I have spelt it EXACTLY as IchoTolot wrote it, so it has nothing to do with that.

you did delete the semi-colon before the FGS master server in the ini didn't you?
sorry... just seems as though its a client problem, and thats all i can think of

Yeah, I did. Here is the bits in the ini file to prove it.
Code: Select all
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master.dxmtl.eu MasterServerPort=27900
This bit above works fine because my server connects to the masterserver when I host.
And
Code: Select all
[DeusEx.MenuScreenJoinGame]
MasterServerAddress=master.dxmtl.eu
;MasterServerAddress=master0.gamespy.com
This bit doesn't work because I can't see any servers in the "dxmtl.eu" masterserver list

:lol: Ok good. I tried it and now I can see 3 servers, and I get good pings to your servers from it as well.

But, not many server hosts seem to have added it to their INI's because there are only 3 servers (4 when I host).
This is probs a bad thing because if the gamespy one were to shut down, or temporarily go offline (like it has in the past) then for many this would mean they would not be able to connect to any servers.
So for anyone who reads this I would strongly recommend that you add this masterserver to your DeusEx INI file, in case the gamespy masterserver goes down, if you still wish to continue playing DX, and if you wish to continue hosting. If you do not know how to do this then read the first post in this topic (the one by Icho), that explains everything.

Sorry for revival but since Nepyths is now out, do the instructions require change?
Posted: 21 Nov 2006, 21:51
