FGS Princely/Castle/Mansion/Gothic/Monstrosity...

Icho came up once with the idea a Gothic Prince's Mansion. Jon/Faction and I are going to work on a map together and with Jon's talent for historical artchitecture and my madness, we hope to produce something spectacular...
Jon is going to work on interiors and I will think about the grounds etc...

I immediately thought of 3 well-known Castles

1. Neuschwanstein (Disney modelled their Castles on this one and it was used in "Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang") I love the tower on the right...

2. The Castle from "Where Eagles Dare" - (Remember the music?)

Impenetrable rock only reached by cable car...

3. And then Castle Wolfenstein...

Horrors can lurk in the Castle basement...

So far I see a rock, perhaps on a river Island, Castle on top, courtyard in middle, perhaps obligatory radio room with music playing near the alarm switch, but also dungeons with horrors lurking, "Secret" stone doors etc... towers with good sniping, some caves from the river area inside the rock into the Castle... a pulley and basket lift, like in "Name of the Rose" or "You only live twice". A giant main hall, with a feast laid out, fireplaces which require further investigation...perhaps a cable car, a few drainpipes etc...

Any ideas?

Well 3 is a copy of 2...right down to the radio room with gramophone and cable car...Castle wolfenstein bored me a little actually...

Icho do you know the real name of 2 ("Schloss Adler"), by any chance?
I assume it is in Germany IRL?

Thanks that link showed a view I havent seen before, some pretty towers...
It's quite similar to the Counter-Strike map de_Piranesi...with snow...
(Hmm I heard CFsnow texture sounds like concrete when u walk on it...)
cable car in skybox or laggy as hell mover?

cable car would be a good vantage point for snipers... move time is easy to determine

maybe you should have a cable car trap say press a button and the cable comes loose but make it visible and put on a low wall if you do cuz if your in the cable car you can take em out

Jon has done some hard work and made a fantastic start to the castle. Jon, can I screenshot it and show ppl the Castle so far? I've been thinking about various ideas to add the surroundings and I will develop two versions before passing back to Jon, should be something to show soon.

It's really fantastic what he's done, very "Jon" it is...

Great hey...
There isn't much space between the edge of the map and the castle walls, so I have extended the floor of the map down, so the castle is perched on a huge rock and bridges and treacherous footpaths will lead the way from ground to Castle.

Also I was thinking of a well, at the bottom of the well is a cave and then a tunnel which leads out somewhere on the mountain rock...

I was also thinking about catapults, magonels and trechebuts which actually work... A player could fire another player over the Castle wall...

I should have something to show in next 24 hours...

too much stuff for one day - the map i had placed the castle in was merely a space for my work - the actual building is to be transferred into a more suitable environment

3-d editor is blanking on me/freezing...which I find quite strange cos I just managed a 8mb map with no errors (DXSG) and I've hardly done anything to your map but it's blanking like a non-alignment or critical error thingy...

maybe I should wait till you have done the interiors and then I will work on that edition. Also it would make sense, then I will know where to put the seige tunnels from the mountain etc...

Shadow, when you want to move around in 3d view, switch view to 'map persp'. That way, the map wont freeze. Only use textures/dynamic lighting when not moving around in the window.
