We've actually had a bot raid on our forum over the past months. I was deleting the users and posts every day. To the end it increased up to 70 bots a day, which was too much for deleting them one by one. So I solved it otherwise.

As for the captcha.. I've just checked, there's reCaptcha enabled and it seems to work. However the bots can read it too.. obviously.

Maybe adding some sort of a simple registration question-answer captcha, like "what is the name of the first Deus Ex protagonist", which would accept "jc", "denton", "j.c." etc. These boards seem to be based on phpBB3, so the plugin linked above should be available in the administration panel.

That would probably filter out all of the bots, while leaving registration open to people that are interested in talking about something else than erectile dysfunction meds or, uhh, stone fences.

Yeah, meanwhile the bot spam was excessive.. up to 70 new accounts per day.
Then everything stopped, after installing one custom question in the registration process.
However after that step, the activity on this board went to almost zero.
