I have one slight issue. Constructive criticism Is viewed differently depending on the person. Something I post, even if in good intentions, might be viewed as flamming by you, while to somebody else it's not. It's really hard to give Constructive criticism since some people take it differently than others... Especially when it comes to mapping and modding.. I've had lots of experience in that department of Constructive criticism..... ..... Then again, I probably say things a bit to bluntly without even realizing it.

If it's not a problem, let me give a somewhat clear example...

Now, here's a standard negative comment:

PlayerX: OMFG your sniper skillz suck nub!!1! LOL BODYSHOT

Thus, we convert it to constructive criticism:

PlayerX: You should aim a little higher, you're getting too many body hits.

Can you see the difference?

What's the problem at shooting torso with sniper?

Thanks for the example, Magus.
@ Sike, it's not exactly a problem, but of course headshots are better :D

I rather them shoot body than head. Give me more of a chance to kill them. :?

lol guess you've never seen me talk to a new mapper. It usually goes something like this

Me: Sorry man, this map flat out sucks.
dude: wtf.. you don't have to be rude about it.
Me: I'm not being rude, you just need to change a few things like textures, spawn points, etc...

usually I tend to be harsh without really noticing it, something that I guess irritates people, but at the same time, I simply tell them what I would fix.

RE: aiming Head/Body
DX is "night of the living dead", you have to aim head...
lol guess you've never seen me talk to a new mapper.
actually, lots of times...
Me: Sorry man, this map flat out sucks.
dude: wtf.. you don't have to be rude about it.
Me: I'm not being rude, you just need to change a few things like textures, spawn points, etc...
why would u start with that first line? You end up getting called things like...
gothic gonnhorea fa***t
by Factory admins...

try this...

ME: I would say you just need to change a few things like textures, spawn points

i generally don't give my personal opinion when I am teaching mapping, I concentrate more on giving the mapper what I estimate the public feedback to be on his map, if it went on Factory or wherever etc...player comments and what other mappers would say... I make clear to let him know the difference... if I bang on to a mapper to change something, it is because I know it will make a complaint from players or anyone likely to host etc... just to raise to a standard, a playable level...

It was called an example.. I can't believe you think i'm really that mean. Seems to be a common belief about me in this community. But to answer your question. I wouldn't start a first line like that. Also lay off the gothic metabolic end product.. If you're not going to learn anything about the people, then don't talk about us.

I wouldn't start a first line like that.
...but you said u did... if u don't then u didn't need to reply...

No-one in FGS is calling you gothic, I was using it an example of the flames that fire at you, when ppl use the word "suck", cos even the worst map has some good points... well I hope it does...

Actually I used the term: It usually goes something like this. But I seem to have a rep about being like that. I know nobody called me Gothic, but the remarks I always here about them are to the point they irritate me. Things like:
All goths slit their wrists
We're all miserable and never smile
We all must wear huge amounts of black makeup and clothing..
Basically the common stereotypes. But i'm pretty defensive when ppl mention something about them simply because I fall under that category and have even fallen under the stereotypes..... more than once.

why are you totally off-topic talking about whether you are gothic or not.

The topic of this thread was rules. U said you tell other mappers their maps suck... I was simply pointing out that it hasn't done you much good in the past.

Can we move on to rules?

I never said I actually say that. I post an example and you take it as the *loving* truth.. It's called Reading comprehension. That means an example is hypothetical, which means it's not real. I have never bluntly told any new mapper their maps suck, The closest I have ever come is I made a comment to a kid saying "The map is in need of a lot of repairs." you basically took the example, altered it into something real, and then said I actually say it to new mappers.... This is the kind of crap i'm always getting.. I would normally wonder if it's just to make me look bad.. but why bother wondering when experience already has told me that answer..... and yes, lets do move on before I completely blow my temper over this bs.

My place? Why not start by knowing yours.. Whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. Do remember, this is a clan not a slave trade. you make it sound Like I belong to the clan when I'm my own person.

Learn to eat a comment, swallow and digest it... it comes out the other end as crap...spitting them back out just leaves crap in your own mouth...

as far as I can see, that comment is harmless and is friendly advice from a well-respected ex-FGS member.

@ Majestic: u thinking what I'm thinking?
