I downloaded their complete collection, and I must say I didn't like a single song, which is quite uncommon for me.

Bands I recommend for the Guns and Metallica fans here, worth a listen.

Judas Priest
Black Sabbath
Aerosmith
Tool's not for everyone or for just casual listening, their music is not mainstream.

@SPAZ: Ok, point taken, Rock\Metal. Same difference mind you....

Didn't you hear that they officially changed their name to $elloutica? As for music here is what I listen to. I believe it's fully updated with all the albums I own, however I haven't finished putting genres in for everything. Also, Tool is more mainstream than they are underground. If you truly want genius music that is underground go with something like Akphaezya or A Forest of Stars, unless you want something truly inaccesible then listen to Merzbow.

There are plenty of amazing underground bands that remain underground.

The entirety of the fusion genre is underground despite it containing the best and most innovative musicians in the world. Even the biggest names like Al Di Meola and Chick Corea are relatively unknown outside of jazz circles. The same can be said for metal. I am presently listening to a band right now called A Forest of Stars who have produced my favorite album of they year so far, as well as being my favorite black metal album of all time, but they'll never make it to the mainstream. Even relatively accessible bands like Ayreon or Freak Kitchen who have each been making astounding albums for over 10 years now have never broken into the mainstream, even though Ayreon have probably released one of the most flawless albums of all time and Freak Kitchen have one of the top and most inventive guitarists in the world presently.

Search the internet. Recently Last.FM's similar artists feature has been really helpful. Although word of mouth is also a very good means to learn about new bands. I participate in a few Metal forums and I've learned so many bands from them, everything from metal to shoegaze to post-rock to hip-hop to flamenco and everything in between. Also, when I go searching through blogs for albums if I stumble across something that sounds interesting I'll get it.

Now for the actual reason I came on here. Just thought I'd let everyone know that if you're a metal fan you should tune into my radio show tonight. I starts at 10 PM EST (02:00 GMT.) To tune in just visit here.
