It would just be refreshing to take a break from iceworld for a while, but i doubt anyone agrees. Spiderbot's last map Covert was ok, dunno... if you have enough, then you have enough I guess.

Regarding DXMS maps, I would take a look at the following;
DXMS_Blockade by Magus.
DXMS_Breakout by Jon.
DXMS_Dust By Jonesy. (Or indeed Chris' version)
DXMS_Rooftop By Ketchup? (Not 100% sure on the author).
DXMS_Forgotton By Jon.

DXMS was decent for 0 augs, TBD did have ideas for the likes of aug matches but they were disregarded. To say that RTK deserves the legacy title is pure many metabolic end product to be honest. A clan that grew in the demise of an already dead game wreaks of insignificance and ignorance.

I'm not keen on DXMS at all. Most of their maps are badly made and very un-detailed or unbalanced... That, and they mostly always have exactly the same game play as each other and ALL lack interaction.
That said, there are one or two that are good, but I'm still not keen how they play (like, as I said, chasm).
I'm having trouble with ratesc, but that should be sorted tomorrow. Any suggestions of what FGS maps specifically to look at?

Re:
DXMS' motto was to metabolic end product out quantities of maps for their map packs.
Not quality maps.
But some of the odd maps shat out in the process are pretty good,
such as Iceworld for example.
Although the detail on the lighting is rather fail.
I'm finishing up a map of mine, like I said before, but I'm as much as a female sex organ as you, Jima.
As in, I'm never happy with the map and I have a hard time letting go of hours of work by just releasing it...

Ya, I also seem to recall it was Ketchup. That said, I don't think that Rooftop would be good on anything but a zero grav server or snipers only serv...chin.democ. wrote:DXMS_Rooftop By Ketchup? (Not 100% sure on the author).
And Spaz, a server that solely kept s0a alive for about a year and a half (could be longer or shorter, meh) deserves some kind of legacy title thingie, imo.

I really like Chinny's DXMS selection. I agree to some extent with Jima and Masta, they were mass produced or sometimes just an experiment with one idea on a small map. (e.g. Sanctum, Phobiac etc), but it has to be said that Magus was/is a genius and his maps are excellent. Blockade is a great map, Spirit was actually made for DXMS, but he left. I think DXMS sometimes released too many of the core members' maps and not enough new members maps passed their approval, despite some of those maps becoming very popular later.
FGS maps? Hmm I've been away, I'm not the best person to ask... but:
Any of the ones we made for DXMS or 0-aug, e.g. amtrack, hk_thedayafter, imperium, cmd_thedayafter, cs_prodigy, smuggler_dayafter etc... Chinny's maps like Encounter etc, Khaamilus made NYC_Statue and Helibase... I'm not too bothered because I will host all these myself soon anyway...DXMP_Starport, DXWW_LastDays, to name a few...

Ok so my windows PC just committed suicide.
This means I can't look at, or test them.
This in-turn means I can't put maps on the server unless I don't test them beforehand (which wont happen).

Re:
About Iceworld, I agree with every critisism you're giving it, but the bottom line is: IT WORKS.
Although it gets boring after 1 round, there's alot of action going on, which is quite nice from time to time.
Also the reason people like smuggler alot. You don't have to wait long to encounter an enemy.
Although Iceworld clearly overdoes it, it works and plays fine
(not to mention your FPS is about the same as when you'd have a black screen)

One thing you've got to give iceworld is that it's Really good for really tiny matches (1 or 2 a side) and it's so undetailed that the FPS can't drop.Mastakilla wrote:About Iceworld, I agree with every critisism you're giving it, but the bottom line is: IT WORKS.

It's the ideal 1v1 arena. Unfortunately, in large (+4 a side) games, the FPS plummets because most players are in view and firing most of the time, together with all of the spawning and effects and whatnot, so it DOES suffer then.
I'll also give it credit for having enough spawn actors to cater for large games - many small maps don't, smuggler being one of them.

Re:
I wouldn't let your personal dislike of sloppy brushwork, or misalignments limit you from testing/hosting maps, you have to (ideally) cater for the majority whom may not share your opinions or who couldn't care less about a bit of basic work here and there.
Also I wouldn't assassinate other people's work so harshly. You have to respect people's work even if you don't like it, that's something I've learned the long way.
DXMS may not have been the most technically proficient medium of producing so called "high quality" maps, but it served as a base for people to learn the SDK, and always had a popular server with custom maps which I find hard to knock.
In order to get a popular server sometimes you have to swallow a bit of pride. Personally I'd try alot of maps and let people's feedback dictate whether or not a map deserves it's place in the maplist.

EDIT: I know I might come a cross a little too critical, but I don't mean to.
I seem to be able to notice the worst in maps. Two things get in the way of making good maps, and that's either lack of experience, or lack of effort.
I don't mind lack of experience at all; I'm not a brilliant mapper myself so I can't exactly criticise others for that....
Most of the DXMS team where brilliant mappers who seem to have rushed maps to hit deadlines or simply get them out of the way, which I don't really like, given the fact most, if not all of them are better than myself at creating maps.
That's a generalisation though, one or two DXMS maps (Nostrocorp especially, and Chasm to a lesser extent) stand out from the pack in terms of quality.
Oh, and I got my mapping PC half working again so I can test, I've also fixed the problem with Ratesc which I'll begin hosting ASAP.
