The (dis?)advantage of DXTelnetAdmin

Post by ~][FGS][Nobody~ »

ShadowRunner wrote: To be honest I dislike DXSL and Telnet for one very simple reason.
If they didn't exist, players would need to join the game, join a server.
Also it does my nut, when I wish to be anonymous, but Telnet is used to identify me and announce me to others.
Ouch, equating Telnet and DXSL hurts!

First of all.. DXTelnetAdmin is an addition to the server not a replacement.
I don't know how others judge about it but for my part removing DXTelnetAdmin wouldn't make me join the server more frequently either.
Simply my Telnet presence on the server would drop out.
Also, if you want to blame something for getting exposed then blame Nephthys, not DXTelnetAdmin.
It's just showing, what any common DX server admin can see in the hud too. :o
DXTelnetAdmin supports extended administrative capabilities such as adding and removing bans, adding and removing mutators AT RUNTIME, getting and setting almost any property of any actor in the game (good for debugging purposes)
Apart of that it allows admins to guard the server from almost any location with a computer and internet.

In my eyes, the problem with DXTelnetAdmin is that many people don't know how it works or how to use it.
I can't understand that because DXTelnetAdmin comes with quite a big readme and all commands get explained to the user by the integrated help command.

Yes I realize now that may have offended you since you don't wish to be compared to Deja Vu, lol, hadn't thought of that.
I did say Telnet had positive advantages though and if you are busy, it allows you to still administrate a server.
Since you dont stop doing it, I'm within my rights to ask you not to reveal my alias, via telnet every time.

Your idea that members discuss issues is good, but so far when members have tried to do this, it received insults and blanks from other members and some members have lost interest and left. Maybe a topic in FGS section where your idea can work?

I don't think that there's anyone who uses Telnet as regularly as Noodlez so I can't understand what's wrong with it.. It obviously doesn't harm anyone.

Your request has been noted.

I'm not sure what you mean.. so you mean creating topics like this in our private section? :o

Well.. I think either people don't see a use of it or they don't understand it.. or the first instigated by the second.. :?
Well, Rollo was mad because I often said Rollo's incoming when he joins. But I was just reading the Nephthys hud messages appearing when he enters.
So I won't do that anymore then but it#s not DXTelnet's fault. :)

I'm not mad or mad with anyone, but just I realized after reading Nobody's suggestion, it's better to discuss things.
You made a suggestion about managing members being able to discuss issues etc, to better the clan. It's a good idea.

Telnet is all good, but sometimes admins might want to alias to check on a particular player etc and it was frustrating when Noodz goes "Hi Rollo", when I'm obviously aliasing. Since I rarely dont have FGS tag on, it was frustrating all the more.
I think last time I wasnt aliasing anyway, but I just wondered why you announced something that everyone was about to see anyway. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Telnet. I think sometimes there's games questions and forum questions and sometimes people should really sod off to pm or msn or something, rather than be turning a server into a chatroom or tech forums. Since I don't see that happen much ever, I don't have any complaint :)
