Shadowrunner's Server with Weapons

Hey Shadow,

NICE FKING WEAPONS ON YOUR SERVER! THE WWII ONES.

I'm goign to try to make some cool gametypes to match it. I'm not sure what would go well with WWII themes but I'll find something more team oriented.

Also, we need moving vehicles that fire. I know its possible because I've seen vehicle mods for UT99 which is basically the same as DX.

Anyways keep up the cool servers shadow. I'll be popping out mods soon. maybe, if I can find some good unprotected code to steal.

Vehicles are possible, but it's not easy as pie. I had experimented alot as you can see at that video.. still failed miserably at replications and other ut-dx conversion problems..

WWII server is awesome! I personally very like history, also WWII. So, that server in DXMP is one of my dreams!
M1 is cool gun, similar to GODZ sniper rifle. 8-) Grenades are good, parachute is funny thing. :-D

But, sometimes are drops in animation, when you are shooting. It needs fix.
Also I think turrets should be remove from this server, don't fit to WWII. And make more maps, please. ^^

Thanks Majster, I'll try to address all comments except vehicles, because that's really Kalman/DJ's expertise.

The turrets are basically a mistake, I forgot to remove them, don't worry as far as I remember no other map has them, I'll update the map in the next few hours/days. It was just to show off parachute and made quickly. I may well remove the airfield on the roofs, once another parachute map is available.

M1 confusion. M1 is not like Godz rifle. Godz rifle is 1 shot anywhere to body. M1 requires 1 shot to head, 2 or 3 to body. In fact it is very similar to shock rifle, 2 unscoped hits will kill unless you do a headshot. In that respect it's identical to altfire.
The difference is that you need different tactics. I think people are attacking riflers from far too great a distance and this is why it seems a bit unfair. SMG is a close quarters weapon, with not much better range than pistol. Bear that in mind.

The remote lams by Pedro, will get removed. Most maps will have only M61 and one or two may have smoke.

I have weapon models for MP40, MG42, German Grenade and for German Rifle. That is as far as I have got with adding new weps.

I have had requests for Fly_The_Planes to be added. I haven't decided yet.

Maps available:
France1944 - being fixed for better fps (this map you start in sky and land in town with moving tank and stationary u-boat)
Cathedral_Airborne - you saw
Landernau2 - needs some weapon re-adjustments, removal of default sniper. Maybe you saw.
Fly_The_Planes
Tobruk_Raid - most of u know this as an altfire map "call of duty"
Probably will do a quick conversion of Paris levels until better maps arrive.

I need more maps.

Good! 8-) But smoke grenades are good, I think all maps should have it.

Good map list on start (but without Fly_The_Planes). I am not a mapper, so I can't help you, but I have few ideas on maps:
-Battle of Kursk
-Battle of Stalingrad
-Warsaw Uprising

Also one question. Do is possible change Unatco and NSF to for example Wehrmacht and Red Army? Soldiers in real uniforms sounds great! :)

The M1 is similar to the energy rifle except for the fact that you can fire shots almost twice as quickly. All of the machine guns are pretty much equal to the original DX assault rifle. So imagine someone with an energy rifle that shoots twice as fast against someone with an assault rifle. Even in close range situations, the M1 seems to have the advantage.

Oddly enough, in my experience this wasn't always the case. While the GODZ rifle COULD get a 1-hit kill with a bodyshot, it wasn't guaranteed to do so. I've not seen the code behind it but I assume there's an arbitrary chance to get the 1-hit kill body shot off it rather than simply a flat damage boost (which would also allow players to remove someone's legs in one hit too)

I somehow find it harder to shoot with the M1 than the energy rifle, don't know why. Furthermore remember, the M1 has no scope so aiming at a target far away is extremely difficult.

It's odd when playing before me and Majster thought it was just like the godz rifle, but I played again the other day and It felt like two shot kills rather than one, then someone told me the pistol is a one shot kill to the head but now I'm not so sure!

The machine guns are really effective up close but at distance you will have to stand still to get good accuaracy, even then you wont do much damage and then ofcourse you are a sitting duck for the m1. I'd be tempted to take out the M1 if I was the admin to make for a more action packed fun game of up close and personal warfare.

Also the M1 can easily take down a parachuting enemy, take out the M1?!!

I just think the M1 needs to be tweaked. From the code, it appears that the author forgot to specify a value for multiplayer accuracy. All the other WWII weapons have a value so it's strange that the M1 doesn't. In single player, the M1 is actually not very accurate. In mulitplayer, the value for multiplayer accuracy wasn't specified so it uses the default value which is perfect accuracy. I'm pretty sure this is a mistake.

Damn I love these weapons, the thompson is my favorite. :)

I gotta ask ( Because I know metabolic end product of modeling in DX ) , how did you manage to get HQ weapons running smoothly in Deus Ex?

Cat used to make some amazing high-quality weapons for DX that ran very smoothly. The only complaint about these weapons was usually just the size, some of them were INDIVIDUALLY up to 30 mbytes on 5 mbytes maps. I never regreted the download time though.
