Competition Discussion

Post by ShadowRunner »

DJ has picked up on a very good point.
from UT99. perhaps this competition should consist of some rules or something?
Players need to understand this is a mapping competition not a porting contest. Chinny set "originality" as a criteria.

I spoke with Face about this issue. How to mark people who are porting maps. Basically players need to take note. If they are going to choose someone else's map design, there are pros and cons in this contest for them.

The pros are that everything easier, laid out already, much less thinking and everything is in it's place already.
The cons are that the judges will be looking for originality in your port. How you managed to bring the DX aspect to the design.
That part is not so easy and originality will be expected. Form your own judgement, but people porting maps are giving themselves a greater challenge.

On the Judge side of things What if there's a tie decision on 1st place is is in question? or 3rd 2nd and so on? Folks will still want to know the out come on a first to last board of all who participated. The more I read about this the more I want to put all my maps on hold and participate! :-D

I'm in the same boat atrey65789 if I enter the challenge that is! so think positive. Here is an idea.. Google somewhere you know' visited or like the look of, pictures of that certain place you choose will help in the outcome of your overall map ideas, decisions and design and scale. And hopefully you will map the map you want and would see in real life with the overall Deus Ex touch as well. Don't forget actors, sounds and general things that bring a map to life as if you were there yourself and the Deus Ex feel again never forget that part.

An original idea or you port an idea in an original way, that's what Face was talking about I think.
Chinny made a good decision asking him to judge, he's been mapping since SDK was released and his background is in the industry, so he sees things from all angles.

Can I still enter if say a week before this ends? pictures or not? as you all know I have lost 60% of my maps anyway so It would be a new map and a rushed one as well! I just have some great ideas for map's if not then I will just carry on as was.
