i5 3570k vs i5 4670k for gaming ?

I'm about to making a new upgrade from scratch on the end of this month, but i got stuck between those 2 CPU.
i still haven't decided with witch one should i go Many people said that haswell 4670k have some issue with overclocking but it can give 5-10% of performances while gaming, and others said 3570k can do the same.
does the 4670k worth the upgrade or get 3570k and save some money
I really need a golden advice for this.

Aand, now that we're on topic, Zotac GeForce GT640 2gb Synergy Edition, or a Sapphire HD7750?
And, if I were you, I'd probably go with the 3570k, if its the same performance for less $$$, and then buy some more stuff from the money saved on the cpu.

If your processor is intel, go with the geforce. If it is AMD, go with the 7750. (if you have the money - which I think it wouldn't be that much more anyway - go for the 7850, I just got that and it's amazing. Only cost me 175 - for the 2gb 256-bit one)

i got hd 7950 but i'm still waiting for other parts and it's a pain in ass when you have this card and you can't test it
for the 7800 series i think 7870 GHz edition is the best chose and it's cheap, awesome card.

wait wut, I've got an Intel processor and nobody told me about that.. I got me a 7750 ages ago, for about 510SAR.
but anyway, it's the best video-card I've ever purchased, no heating issues what-so-ever, and I can run everything real fine. So I suggest Radeon HD 7750 too.

However it still suggests 7750 as #2. If you want to save some money, you could buy yourself a 6670, but I couldn't find one here anyway.

Hmm... a hd 7850 you say? I'll think about that, I was considering to save up for a 7750 which is 37000HUF for me. (~163 dollars)
No, I'm pretty sure I won't buy a 6670, its around the same performance as the one i have atm. Mine scored 1192 on benchmarks, the 6670 did 1391, so not much of a difference.

Edit: price of 7850: 236 dollars
price of the 7750: 119 dollars
The 7850 is nearly 2x the price :\

The old debate about using Nvidia when having an Intel processor or using AMD gpu when you also have a AMD cpu is outdated in my opinion.

You can crossplay very well and you will see little to no changes in FPS in games, means when you compare videocards which are par, you will have no difference at all. I have an i5 3570k with 4.2GHz, HD7850 and i cant name one game which i cant play in max settings.
ofc the 7850 isnt the greatest, but it gets work done and when you play at 1080p, you will be fine either way.

When you want to play in extreme settings, the 7850 isnt a gpu for you, then you should consider 7900 your aiming, but thats expensive

Also an i7 gives you almost no benefit, because many games arent codet to suppost 4 cores, let alone 8 (even when they are only virtual ones).
When you want something for the future, buy an i7 but buy one with an "K" behind the cpu model, that means you can overclock it way easier, faster and safer then non K cpu's.
My CPU is also an "K" model and i clocked it from 3.2GHz to 4.2GHz. Just watch your temp on the cpu.


Note: AMD CPU's are an alternative, but they are way slower and even the top octa core model cant outrun an basic quad core from intel when it comes to gaiming.

Note²: the new Haswell CPU's have problems with some PSU's , because of the new sleep mode. Check if your PSU supports Haswell CPUs or it can cause some problems.

Okay so just to report in:
I bought the 7750, installed the metabolic end product provided on the cd, and fired up crysis 3.
Min fps: 11
Max fps: 33
Avg fps: 22

My poor specs:
CPU: Core2duo @ 2,5ghz
RAM: 2gigs of ddr2.800
MOBO: GIGABYTE EP35-DS3 or something similiar lol
GPU: Now the 7750 with 2gb gddr3

The first loading took really long when i started the game after installing, but after that, all the loadings n metabolic end product were fast, I wasn't lagging (with that average of 22fps lol) except when I first entered New York (version 2 dot *loving* 0), I had like 11 fps or even less o.o, but from on then it was all cool and pretty enjoyable.

I think I gotta buy 2 more gigs of ram and then im fine... maybe a core2quad too later

Dont go and upgrade from this rig, i would start over.

The mainboard wont hold newer cpus, thats my guess and ddr2 ram is outdated.

Crysis 3 also is suggested to have atleast a dual core 3.0GHz so i guess this is what bottlenecks the hardware at crysis 3. the gpu is fine atleast for some games. crysis 3 isnt one of them but for normal details its okay.

ram would be the next bottleneck, 2GB is bad i would go to atleast 4gb.

when you dont have the money for a brand new rig, then its fine as it is. you can play deus ex with it and thats all you need

I agree with tidus, that rig sounds poopy. You'll want a psu and mobo that can last years (that support better upgrades).

You can play it with your current config but you have turn setting to normal or bellow with small screen resolution.

I think with this config i can stand for 4 years ahead.

for certain tasks, its good to overclock it, the 3750k is one of the easiest overclocked CPUs i know of with no big cooler required.
I didnt digged into it too far but i clocked mine to 4.2GHz and i could run it with the intel standart cooler with no problem. ofcourse i dont like noisy cases or in this case cou coolers, so i bought a seperate one which is more then enough for my uses and its still air and nothing like water or some other stuff you can cool your cpu with.

Thats beeing said, my uses for clocking this cpu higher then the base clock is easy, i have more power for free (more or less) and because i like to emulate consoles (Wii, PS2 are the ones who really need CPU power) i need more then the base clock. i COULD buy a more expensive cpu sure but i7 CPUs dont fit into my uses and the 4.2GHz doing the job well enough to play anything i want without any lag.


I switched from a quad core (AMD) to the octa core "FX-8150" and was dissapointed beyond belief. It was so slow in the things i use my cpu in mostly (Games, emulate, video coding) it was nothing i would stay on and thats why i bought the i5 and clocked it to 4.2GHz.

With the new consoled hit the tune in a few months, you could wait a little to see, what happens to current hardware prices and maybe upgrade then or wait even longer. I dont know how bad you need something new but from the view you have now from your rig, i wouldnt upgrade with the same mainboard and PSU, you never know if the new hardware you buy will do well with your current PSU.
