@ Magus. Yes that map has been hosted before, it's playable for sure.
Ken, I can't agree with you. Iceworld is a spawnkilling map which is TOO small, whereas RTKM_Challenge is how Iceworld should have been. Statistically the most popular maps are actually RTKM_Spirit and Moenia, not Iceworld, which takes 3rd place.
Ive' just played the whole 4+ hours map rotation. Every map worked well, except for Damnation Alley, even with a full server I do not think it will work well perhaps.
We will be adding RTKM_Spirit to the map rotation as well.
As for maptesting, a map can not really be tested in a limited time. A map needs to sit on a server for a week at least.
There are maps which were hated for the first 4 days, but eventually did become some of the most popular maps.
Also most negative opinion commented in servers, tends to be from people who disapprove of the gametype or the mapper rather than the map itself. I've seen people decide on a map within 15 seconds and start to swear and use bad words etc, but after a week that map is getting voted heavily. Any member of DXMS will be able to tell you that. Maps rejected by DXMS or the community have become some of the most played maps in Deus Ex, such as Prodigy, Amtrack, Chinny's maps etc.

Your statistics dont really interest me because I know what the average playerbase consists of, and I know as a fact that Ive played more maps on Iceworld during my time in DXMP than I have on Moenia or Spirit.
Iceworld is a spawnkilling map which is TOO small
Smuggler definitely is not spawnkilling map? Cathedral of course is not spawnkilling map? Area51? Do you know what you can do on smuggler? You can spawn, take your gun and hope you dont get shot when you stick your nose out. What can you do on iceworld? You can get your gun and go around the corner because finding your team is actually easier, or getting out of harms way by making use of tight corners and the multitude of angles that protect you from a snipe. There is the spawn protection for a reason.
Given the time it takes to get from one spot to another, to cover the entire square, i wouldnt say it is much smaller than smuggler, besides the middle area that people only rarely use. You cant always expect your server to have 5 players on each team in dxmp, and for that reason it works. Hell, iceworld works with even 10 players in each team, just lags the fps down.

Awesome. I'm not sure when it got released, but I won't complain

I find Iceworld is just about big enough for the average amount of players we get these days. Back in the DXMS heyday when we could fill a 20-man server, it did get a little messy in there, but otherwise it plays out quite well (possibly due to its' simplicity)

Woot

Yea, and I find that testing is the hardest part of making maps - in this day and age you can't get enough people on a new map to give them a thorough playthrough and report any issues. Additionally, for the most part they just say it's a metabolic end product map without telling you why.

To be honest, when Chinny first showed up at the DXMS, he wasn't very good at mapping - and now I'll happily state he's far outstripped my abilities, and I'll hail him as one of our few success stories

*love* me, Spirit and Scoutz? Magus you always hit the nail on the head for me when mapping, i LOVE both maps with a passion, and for totally opposite reasons

1. OK we had better have a Chinny map on server. Chinny can you send Feary Gothmother your best zero aug stuff please.
2. Magus same thing, maybe he's having trouble finding Spirit.

HelloOOOOo. Where can I hide in Iceworld? Oh that's right, behind another player!
At least in Smuggler I can hide somewhere. Even if enemy come to my spawn from both directions, I still have corners to ambush from, the ammo crate, or in the ramp up to the car park there are shadows and crates and pillars I can dodge the bullets from.

I moved Iceworld further from Smuggler in the maplist, to balance the variation of maps.
I added a 2-spawn old version of Prodigy, we'll see how that goes.
(I'm fixing the window, the lam in one spawn and a couple of movers that move strangely. Also re-adding the AFV)
I removed Frenzy.
I'll re-read this and the other thread and implement any suggestions/changes I can find also.
I can add Sector_32, also admins, there are a lot of maps in the folder that aren't on the list, so I will print the list, so ppl can servertravel to those maps for fun, when entertainment is called for...

It would be interesting see how Sector would behave in an 0 aug server, it's so basic that it should offer fast paced action at a decent fps. You know the original was 4x the size and had one 747 at each end and a revolving searchlight (thanks to Oddache's hardwork)in the middle! Oh and lots of explodable barrels.
Oh Shadow do you think I should sue Eidos for copying Sector 32 for HR? but then they might sue me for copying HR's Sector 32...

I think Sector 32 and Desert Strike work very well, because they both could be levels in the Deus Ex 1 story. Deus Ex loved its barrels, containers and crates. There are so many different textures for trailers, containers, crates etc in DX1.
Can u link me to a download of Sector 32 with 747ness then please.

Just had a look for it and I'm sorry to say it has been lost in cyberspace. Unless Oddache has a copy.

Done, should be rotating normally now.
Any map requests?
One suggestion I've had, is to remove Towers.
I'm adding Foregone, didn't see the attachment.
Magus, Foregone was hosted on the last DXMS rental, which was Jon and Spidey I think
Also.
Now both servers are attracting attention, I think it is safe to discuss "popularizing" them.
So I withdraw my previous comments and I'm all for RPG or advertising FGS servers.
Re: SG server. Nobody, I'm guessing it's quiet, because there is nothing new on there? Or maybe zero augs is pulling players, and as more players join DXMP, SG will fill up?

I think the problem of SG is the old stuff.
But I can't think of anything I could do there at the moment.. apart of adding some of your SG maps possibly..?

I think most of mine are unsuitable for normal grav.
Area51_V4 (to be renamed) is very similar to the original, so its not much new there.
If we add the Zat guns and DJ's spaceships to Abydos, it could be very exciting, but it's a big map.
Silo, Skyline are much smaller, but not ready.
Nexus, Orbital are either not ready or not much fun without low grav.
Someone suggested sticking every SG map on with mapvote, but I don't think it would work well.
Maybe icho's suggestion of tactical or weapon lord is the best idea. Tac or Wep Lord and add Area51_V4 (sky fixed) maybe.
Also DXMS_Foregone didn't load, but I don't see the problem. 2 files in zip were razor-rb.umx and the map. EDIT: Ah I see the problem, upload didnt upload all, the music is over a meg, but only 122kb uploaded.

So is that a problem at your end, or do I need to fix the attachment here?
