There are advantages to using default brushes and items sometimes. If I have a choice of making a complex angled brush or using one that I know already doesn't bug or cause BSP, sometimes I play safe. Also custom features are all very nice, but sometimes confusing to beginners and it's difficult to improve on the standard wep rack for speed, there's no shame in using them perhaps. Of course if a mapper can solve those issues himself with something new, then all well and good. Some wep placements are notoriously user-unfriendly.

hey btw its ok to duplicate a brush within the same map and rotate in different ways rite?

Usually not a problem, but make sure the duplicated brush is sitting on the grid after it's been created.
I believe though, in a large map if you kept on duplicating, you would eventually get 10,000 iterations too.
In Hengsha city, nothing at all is being duplicated, I have like a mental bug-ometer in my head and at the moment it's reading zero, I don't add anything at funny angles, sizes, shapes etc, I'm keeping it simple, but it will be a rich environment. I'm not making any custom brushes so far either, so yeah, bugometer is at zero.
Copypolygonstobrush command, acheived by right clicking a brush, should be the best option.
Once you've textured your brush, just right click it and copy polys to brush. Then just use your red brush to make a new brush. It will in most cases retain the texture info and save you a lot of time.

well, you don't have to chase rats like tom all day long ... you can catch the rats with this trap ... simplism to its best (p.s. simplism is not a real word.....)
