FGS Mapping Challenge - Whiplash entry, more detail

Hey everyone;

There's no more doubt, I'm jumping into the challenge. I hereby unconditionally and irrevocably exclude myself from any further decisions about the running of the competition: namely rules, judging and time limits, though it might take me a month or two to do this: :roll:

I've decided to model an industrial area not very far from me: specifically a light industrial park (storage, industrial retail and distribution companies) straddling an important regional route on the outskirts of a town called Ballymahon, near the middle of Ireland.

I don't have much more than a Google Maps Streetview showing of the area, but it's all I need, both to show the location and to make a reasonable facsimilie of it.

I've worked close to you in the past few years such as Castlepollard and Mullingar etc :D

Industrial estate sounds like a good idea.

Looking forwards to this, we haven't played that LaGuardia map for years, looks good for altfire maybe too.

Hi guys;

Just so you know this project is still ongoing. I've picked it up again last few days and got maybe 1/3 of it done.

But I've hit a bit of snag - for some reason my UnrealEd is not importing textures anymore. ](*,) So I've uploaded 3 relevant files in case someone can help.

Basically I have a package for the project, Ballymahon.utx and two textures I need added to it - UnrealEd puts me through the motions but doesn't actually add them to anything ](*,) No explanation either. So if someone could put the two textures into the texture package for me.

There you go!
The problem was the size of the textures.
Width and height must be a power of two. :)

Greetings amigos

I've finally finished this map, took me long enough :) I've attached a zip file containing the map, two custom texture files (made a mistake with one so I decided to put subsequent textures into a new file) and custom music.

You don't think that armory is a tad bit excessive?

My first impression is that it looks like there's a lot of unused space. I think you should consider spending time on detail, right now it seems that most of your rooms rely heavily on DX objects like chairs sofa etc. Shadowrunner, Chinny and Cozmo are really good at doing custom brushwork, I'd ask them for advice if necessary. Good job!
