Hi there FGS. How are you today, I hope you are well. I have a request please :)

There are some maps made in 2007/2008. They are still waiting to go on Altfire server without crash/deletion.

These maps are

1. The correct version of the DayAfter SG map as seen on ZXC server, with the elevator that crashes into the water.
2. The Area51Bunker_V4 SG map, which I noticed has been removed or is again missing.
3. The new unseen DXSG_Abydos which disappears totally, DJ has the map and files.

Since no-one has said to me "*love* off I am not hosting them", I assume that it is some tech issue still.

Ye ok, ok, thx Kaiden...

If i said anything else than that I would be told I am "attacking"... I do honestly want to know why it's impossible to ever see these maps on altfire. Actually I don't want to know. I would just like the clan to be able to host them for more than a few hours.

If not then I don't think anyone can stop me hosting them on a separate Altfire server.

Hello Rollo, long time no see.

Since, I lack competence to host the server, I don't know if i can fulfill your wishes, but I'll try my best.

Ok..
1. Currently, on altfire is DXSG_A51_TheDayAfterRC, uploaded on 25th January 2009. I don't know if that's the correct version. Pass me the right one if this one is wrong.
2. Area51Bunker_V4 is still not finished. If you point to your V4 version, then there is no trace on the server. Perhaps it was hosted on Hawks altfire server before it was closed. When I killed my SG server to make Altfire survive, the map accidentally was not transferred.
3. The nonexistence of this map anywhere is a mystery to me. I don't even have it on my local maps folder. If someone passes it to me I can put it up.

Did you actually manage to finish that Abydos map? If so I'd love to see it. Was it an edit of someone else's map or yours from scratch, I think I remember some map similar I could be very wrong though.

When I refer to incompetence I am talking about the clan, not individual members.

1. OK well thank you, I wonder how the correct version is missing. Probably that you never removed the tac dependency.
2. OK well that is a good point, it needs someone with SDK to open SDK and retexture the skybox ceiling to sky and the V4 part of the name removed. That is my fault that I forgot. I was just seeing that it had gone missing. But that is very strange Noodz, you say you removed it because it was unfinished. Yet you host unfinished maptest_849 for 3 years, it doesnt even have spawnrooms, and the mapper was asking you for years to remove this unfinished work. V4 is missing one texture, and you removed it. Very strange if you ask me.
3. Oh well, DJ has it, I am not sure I am able to access my old hard drives until I get a holiday and can go to a PC shop.

Apologies for my mood here yesterday.

DXSG_Abydos is the "first" SG map which has actually an active stargate. It comprises of two maps, a finished "Maptest_849" and a compilation of several single player maps. It compromises of sections of Vandenberg_Tunnels, Area51_Sector_3, Vandenberg_Computer, Vandenberg_CMD and a little bit of Vandenberg_Gas, all placed within the Vandenberg_CMD map. The stargate is located underneath Comm in the SP Sector 3 area. At the destination gate there is Abydos temple and desert, where of course you can find the superweapons.

I finished this map a long time ago, but the finished version went missing and an unfinished version appeared on server for over a year, until I returned. It was hosted for a few days in 2010, then DJ and Sasquatch donated some weps particularly suitable for a map called "Abydos" and some Starfighters which dump WP on the ground in a napalm strike type thing. I haven't been able to add them. The map was tested, although it seems incredibly massive, it seems like it would be popular, if there were enough players or modded for RPG. But it is frustrating when you put hundreds of hours into these SG maps and then no-one ever sees them.

DJ has everything. I'm missing some files and can't open it, until I visit a PC shop to get some IDE or access old drives...

If you have the abydos map but just missing dependencies, send me the map, I'll see if I get it to open.
Also, that maptest is definitely NOT on the server, I just checked again.

It's odd that you allow a map with one shock rifle and no spawnrooms to sit on server for three years, while a member constantly makes request for removal, but remove another map for missing one texture.

The VandenbergPB and Maptest849 have gone, you are right, apologies for the trolling, but you can understand my frustration, asking you for a very long time to remove them, when Abydos could be there instead. First Abydos went missing, I had to rebuild the SG ramp, which I had to wait 2 years to do so, being that until busy last year.

It's missing textures, but those textures would be the same textures as Maptest_849.
There is a texture also for the rings, probably you don't have it, but DJ does.

It's fine to make mistakes or not be able to attend to everything, especially when working for free, but I don't think you had the right to accuse me of being mental in public for slowly losing my patience over three years...

It pains me a lot to know you have one free hour per day only. There are/were many guys in FGS who are perfectly capable of managing the ftp. If there was more than person with ftp, you guys would be able to host new DLC almost every night, just like we did in the past. This proved to increase Altfire customers and bring players from other gametypes. Why not lighten the load and let other clan members help you.

I may possibly have some or all of the dependencies on a backup CD, but it will take me the next hour or two at least, and I may not find it. Presumably all the dependencies are on DJ's DX installation, since he hosted the new rebuilt version for maptesting.

Adding the "Z" gun and umm "SL" would be orgasmic, but I respect that they were made for your SG3 mod, so I appreciate if you decide that they shouldn't be added to Abydos, or not added yet. The napalm strike fighters are unfinished, they require a dispatcher or button or something apparently.

It's one reason I HATE asking you, because I know how busy you are, I wish you would let others help you sometimes.
Also, this map was made in 2007 and edited slightly in 2010. In 2011 I gained a lot more mapping skill and a stable platform for SDK finally, if you don't like anything, I can fix it.

The point of this map, teams fight for control of the gate, whoever controls the gate, controls the superweps and DJ's weps on Abydos (if they are placed there). when tested, teams did not always even find the stargate, they assumed it was a CMD map.

I've calmed down, I like you really, and I probably have the files somewhere, and is my fault for being lazy and not just renting a server and relying on other FGS etc.

As soon as my HR maps are finished I will attack Nexus and Silo and have enough SG maps to run a server. Prolly tac and augs.
But some help with Abydos would be nice.

Hmm right.. you and SG were having technical problems that I was unable to comprehend because they were that weird. :o

According to ftp..
I'm currently at work.. I'll re-initiate the ftp access when I'm home again (in approx 8 hours).
Actually the ftp accounts should be still there and if I'm not wrong, bigfoot and chinny should even have access yet.
I would have given ftp access again even to you, Rollo, but since you decided to leave FGS, it would be inappropriate.. :ney:

So yeah, DJ passed me the abydos map, if it is ready to be hosted, I'll upload it when I'm home.
Until then I'd like to have a short confirmation yet, whether the map is ready to be hosted. All required packages seem to be there.

Yeah I remember you gave me ftp access ages ago and I still have the details, I've had no reason to use it because I've been mapping for mods rather than make Altfire friendly maps, but that will change.

I didn't check my editor log, but I think I'm missing either some SGmod component or a texture, probably the one for the RT dials, since I didn't see it in DJ's collection.

AFAIK it's in final beta/release candidate form. From previous playtests, DJ's weps kinda fixed the hugeness issue, by placing them in the alien temple. But also there is issue of players didn't turn right in SP Vandenberg tunnels, but they have to in Abydos, so some players assumed this is CMD_DayAfter and didn't realize there's a Stargate... probably should redesign one day and make it more obvious.

Don't get the sack, it's appreciated that it's being done, and as since I left FGS.
