I suggest reading very carefully what earns points and what doesn't and trying to cover all criteria in your idea.
@ Kalman, definitely there is no clear winner yet. It's not a handicapped competition, if you look carefully at the criteria, some of them have absolutely nothing to do with skill or experience. I can't say without talking to other judges, but I see one criteria that you could be winning already, so take your time. There's no need to rush. Maybe I was wrong to suggest 2 months, but I thought it would allow beginners time with any technical SDK issues and balance the competition a little for those that aren't used to it.

JC Clone!
For what appears to be 15 brushes so far, it doesn't look horrible at all.
Just I'm wondering what it is...

Avator you should search online for pictures of an environment you would be interested in making, having pictures to work to will give you a great start.
Little details make all the difference to making a believable environment, I'm sure with a little patience you can make a map with hundreds of brushes - you still have over seven weeks - take your time get a plan in place - begin to execute your plan adding more and more detail slowly and methodically.
I'm in the process of making a mapping checklist, it's worth having a look - http://www.gravity-world.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3428.

Re: 2 MB MAPPING CHALLANGE - Avatar
I've noticed, the mapper who starts the topic with something like... " I decided to base my map on..." is doing well.
Face made some lampshades, that were unusual for DX and I asked him where he got the idea. He said that he looks around the real world and uses his travel experiences. The lampshades were based on a hotel lobby in America.
SDK being subtractive in it's method tends to cause mappers to build "cave corridors". DXMS_Dungeon is an example. Mappers like Ste and Sike recognise this and try to work around this making sure features are not too cubic and mirror real life architecture.

@ Chin that's a handy mapping tip to add to your guide it's the same thing I did when making Concordia.
